English translation of the German original.
…with Heinz Aschenbrenner, it is something else that drives the painter and his painting: the pictorial events thrown onto the canvas, rudimentarily, as explosions of something felt, always seem to hover in an imaginary space. His perspective too – if I may call it that – is codified: everything seems somehow laid side by side. Static and dynamic elements relate to one another within the composition.
What rests entirely within itself acts as a counterpoint to form seemingly arrested in motion – I can put it no other way: arising from an impulse.
This is coupled with the deliberately fleeting application of colour, as though the painter had merely brushed against the canvas in passing.
His painting has the character of something disappearing or coming into being. One searches, finds, loses, searches again. A play of art.
